Gerrity is a detective for the Lexington Police Department.
In "Watching the Detectives", Gerrity is first seen with his colleague Gary Dempsey at the Marshals office where they are questioning Raylan. Raylan tells them the story about how he dropped a bullet onto Wynn Duffy's chest and threatened him saying "the next one is coming faster" (Raylan's point to prove being to leave Kentucky and don't come back). Both men appear intrigued and amused by the story, but Gerrity said it would have been even cooler had it actually worked, and he soon leaves to visit Robert Quarles and Duffy to see if Raylan's story makes any sense. Upon arriving to Quarles's house, he finds it empty and heads to the room where Quarles had previously held and killed a rent boy. Quarles and Duffy show up as soon as he goes to open the door. After formally introducing themselves to Gerrity, he asks them if they know who Gary is, to which Quarles shakes his head "no" in reply. He then questions Quarles, while Dempsey questions Duffy. Both men deny the "bullet story" ever happening, but both confirm that Raylan assaulted Duffy but Duffy explains that it was because he couldn't locate Gary, rather than because Duffy called a hit on him. Quarles then asks if Raylan has a drinking problem, which confuses Gerrity.
